LIBRARY COMMISSION BULLETIN ISSUE NO. 1
Suffield is about to make an important decision about the future of its library building. In an effort to keep residents informed and to solicit input, the Library Commission is launching this bulletin, which will be published periodically and sent only to those who express interest in staying on the mailing list. We need you to reply to this bulletin with either "Continue" or "Unsubscribe" in the subject line . Please send an email to LibraryCommission@cox.net. If you know others who would like to be added to the mailing list, please include their first name, last name and e-mail address in the return message.
On February 20, the Library Building Committee presented to the Board of Selectmen its report and proposal for construction of a new, 30,000 square-foot library building on the current site. The Selectmen voted to refer the proposal to the Board of Finance for further action. Before final design and construction can start, the Board of Finance must review and act upon the proposal, the Board of Selectmen must then elect to send the proposal to the voters, and the town residents must vote to approve the project.
Two views of the proposed new building, prepared by an artist, are shown at the top of this bulletin. Visit the library or its website at www.suffield-library.org to see larger views and detailed floor plans.
The Commission is arranging public presentations to be held at various locations in town. Two are already confirmed - one on Wednesday, March 26, at The West Suffield Congregational Church at 7 p.m. - and another on Sunday, April 6, at Academy Hall in West Suffield, from
The Commission is also arranging to have small gatherings hosted by individuals who will invite friends and neighbors. Commission and Building Committee members will be present to answer questions. Several of these already have taken place, with very enthusiastic reviews. If you would like to host one of these sessions, please contact Caroline Martin at 668-2205 or jmartin5952@sbcglobal.net.
We will send you updates as new information becomes available. Please let us know if there is any specific information that you would like us to include in subsequent bulletins. We look forward to your reply.
