Kent Memorial Library Commission

February 14, 2012

Lynne Cigal called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.

I Roll Call

Present: M. Alexopoulis, L. Cigal, S. Coatti, J. Grimard, C. Kawalec, B. Rietberg,

B. White & J. Wilson.

Absent D. Battle, M. Chafetz, C. Rago, & J. Lobo.

Also Present Library Director Jim McShane

II Public Participation None

III Minutes

Sam Coatti made the motion, seconded by Claire Kawalec to accept the minutes of the January 10, 2012 meeting with the following corrections: Correct the spelling of secretary in Bob White’s initial motion, and, under the Report of the Director section, amend the last item to read The Friends of the Kent Memorial Library have pledged $25,000 for the new children’s area. The motion passed unanimously.

IV Communication None

V Director’s Report

• The Director met with Joe Sangiovanni, Ted Flanders, and Patrick McMahon on January 30 to discuss the possibility of applying for a CDBG grant for ADA improvements.
• Tables and chairs for the sitting area have been ordered. Quotes have been sought from electricians for replacing the fluorescent lighting fixtures over the bookcase against the wall in the library. A company has been hired to put in the new floor.
• The architects who designed the roof have been approached for an estimate for designing new doors for the library.
• The Director completed a grant proposal to Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for $21,800 from the Zak Fund for computers, a smart board, an LCD projector, and new software.
• The library is expected to reopen in the spring.

VI Standing Committees

Building and Grounds

The Building and Grounds Committee met on January 16 and made a list of those items needing repair.

VII Unfinished Business The library is scheduled to reopen sometime this spring.

VIII New Business

Sam Coatti made the motion, seconded by Bruce Rietberg, to approve an additional $10,000 for flooring. The motion passed unanimously.

The next meeting is March 13, 2012.

Bruce Rietberg made the motion, seconded by Joe Grimard, to adjourn at 8:10 P.M.
